GOD'S WORD IS HEALING

1. God's Word Is Healing

a) After going through my old personal files, I found this special letter to Dr. Lawrie Austin, the former Managing Director of Shell Companies in Malaysia. This letter was written on 28th January 1995 (some 20 years ago):

2. The Letter

Dear Dr. Lawrie Austin,

a) When I heard that you have a mild stroke, my first reaction was to cry out to my God, asking Him to touch and heal you just as He did a miracle for me a few days ago. You see, I was having nose bleeding for 7 days. The main reason why God chose to heal me of this chronic nose bleeding was because of His enduring mercy and love.

b) Before I give an account of my encounter of a miracle, I would like to, first of all, say that I have always enjoyed your cordial acquaintances that led to a beautiful friendship during your stay in Malaysia. This has always been a good memory.

c) I trust that after you have read my testimony, you will be so inspired to reach out to our Almighty God for His provision of healing.

3. My Testimony

i) On 20/01/1995 (Friday), I went home at 8.30 pm after the Finance Services year-end party. When I reached home at 9.30 pm, I felt very tired and went straight away to sleep. I woke up at 11.30 pm in the middle of the night and decided to  have a warm and hot shower. As I was cleaning myself with a bath towel, I began to smell something amiss. Then, I realized that blood was oozing out from the right side of my nose. I quickly wiped the rest of my body and went out of the bathroom to lie down. Then the blood flow stopped.

ii) On 21/01/1995 (Saturday), I naturally went to see a General Practitioner (GP) to complain about my nose bleeding. As usual, the GP gave me some medication. I took the medication as prescribed but somehow the bleeding did not stop. The only way to temporarily arrest the  bleeding was to lie down and apply a towel wrapped with chipped ice on my forehead. The bleeding stopped for a moment but continued to persist.

iii) On 22/01/1995 (Sunday), I went back to the same GP and this time he advised me to see an Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) specialist to have a thorough check-up. He suspected the I being a Chinese, aged above 40 years was a likely candidate for nose cancer. That wasn't encouraging, was it? However, to be sure, I decided to go for a thorough check-up since the bleeding had not stopped. I was told that early detection of nose cancer if treated could perhaps be cured with the right kind of medicine.

iv) On 23/01/1995 (Monday) morning, I went to Shell Clinic, Kuala Lumpur with the GP's referral letter. At this time, my nose was still bleeding. The physician in charge, immediately referred me to the ENT Specialist of Subang Medical Centre in Petaling Jaya. My appointment with the ENT Specialist was at 9.40 am. One of my staff was kind enough to drive me there as I was not able to drive with one hand (I had to apply pressure on my nose with the other hand to stop the bleeding).

v) The ENT Specialist gave me a thorough check-up with his special instrument (ENT scope). To my relief, I was informed that there was no traces of cancer. To be doubly sure, the ENT Specialist even checked deeper by using a special tool, magnifying 6 times for scanning. Thereafter, the ENT Specialist told me that it wasn't anything serious and the bleeding should stop. He gave me some medication and a day off.

vi) I was so happy about the whole situation and I sent my staff back to office. The time was almost lunch break.

vii) I went to take my lunch at Shell Canteen at 12.30 pm. Just before I could eat, my nose bled. I then decided to go home immediately.

viii) On 24/01/1995 (Tuesday), I went back to see the ENT Specialist. This time he requested for an X-ray. He suspected that the continuous bleeding might arise from parasinuses or growth in the inner cavity which he could not examine with his instruments. The results of the X-ray disclosed that I was perfectly alright. He told me to have a long rest and gave me 4 days off.

ix) On 25/01/1995 (Wednesday), the bleeding did not stop. It came off and on. But during this period, I had plenty of time to read the Bible on the Book of Psalms. Psalms 107:20 caught my interest.

@1. Psalm 107:20
20 He sent His word and healed them,
And delivered them from their destructions.

x) Since the bleeding had not stopped completely, I began to firmly believe for a miracle. I began to recall that "JESUS" is the Word as mentioned in the Gospel of John and by calling upon the Name of Jesus, miracle of healing could take place. Then, I began to fervently believe, "All power and authority has been given by God the Father to His Son, JESUS, in heaven, on earth and under the earth and every knee shall bow and tongue confess that JESUS is Lord." With that faith and belief, I began to speak to my broken blood vessels (sound foolish!!!) and commanded them to stop bleeding in the Name of Jesus. Praise the Lord! The bleeding stopped! I believe God has answered my simple faith at that point of time and His healing is permanent. Praise His Holy Name!

4. Exhortation

a) Lawrie, I know that I have given a lengthy account of my testimony. But, I believe that when everything seems to fail, "God's power of healing shall be released to those that not only believe in their hearts but also diligently seek after Him."

@1. Psalm 103:3
3 Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases.

b) God loves me and also you. Do not lose heart but continue to trust in Him. I trust that with my testimony of what God can do, you can also experience Him. I shall be praying for you during my time of devotion.

c) Please write to me if you can.

d) May God's mercy and grace be upon you ... TANNY KENG
