SALVATION BY FAITH

0. Introduction

a) Salvation by faith in Christ sounds too easy for many people. They would rather think that they have done something to save themselves. Their religion becomes one of self-effort that leads either to disappointment or pride, but finally to eternal death. Christ's simple way is the only way, and it alone leads to eternal life.

1. Goal 

a) Religion by self-effort

i) Please God by our own good works.

b) Salvation by Faith

i) Trust in Christ and then live to please him.

2. Means

a) Religion by self-effort

i) Practice, diligent service, discipline, and obedience, in hope of reward.

b) Salvation by Faith

i) Confess, submit, and commit yourself to Christ's control.

3. Power

a) Religion by self-effort

i) Good, honest effort through self-determination.

b) Salvation by Faith

i) The Holy Spirit in us helps us do good work for Christ's kingdom.

4. Control

a) Religion by self-effort

i) Self-motivation; self-control.

b) Salvation by Faith

i) Christ in me; I in Christ.

5. Results

a) Religion by self-effort

i) Chronic guilt, apathy, depression, failure, constant desire for approval.

b) Salvation by Faith

i) Joy, thankfulness, love, guidance, service, forgiveness.
