0. Introduction

a) For the Gospel writers, one of the main reasons for believing in Jesus was the way his life fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah.

b) Following is one of the main prophecies.

1. Messiah was to be given vinegar and gall.

2. Old Testament Prophecies

a) Psalms 69:21

i) ²¹ They also gave me gall for my food, And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. (Psalms 69:21 NKJV)

3. New Testament Fulfillment

a) Matthew 27:34

i) ³⁴ they gave Him sour wine mingled with gall to drink. But when He had tasted it, He would not drink. (Matthew 27:34 NKJV)
