NUMBER THIRTY (30-1)

(Message by Tanny Keng)

0. Introduction

a) The number thirty, being 3 x 10, denotes a higher level of perfection of Divine order, as marking the right moment. Jesus was thirty years of age at the commencement of His ministry. Joseph, a type of Jesus, was the same age. King David also, when he began to reign over Israel, was 30 years old:

i) "And Jesus Himself began to be about thirty years old," (Luke 3:23, Holy Bible in Its Original Order - A Faithful Version (HBFV))

ii) "Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt." (Genesis 41:46, NKJV unless stated)

iii) "David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years." (2 Samuel 5:4)

b) The number 30 pictures dedication. Aaronic priests were dedicated to serve at age 30. John the Baptist, the son of a priest, began his ministry at age thirty, six months before Jesus began His at age thirty. Thirty also portrays the blood of Christ.

1. The number thirty and the betrayal of Jesus

a) Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. When he threw the silver back into the temple, the priests rejected it as an offering but decided instead to buy a field - which was a fulfillment of an ancient prophecy:

b) 6 The chief priests picked up the coins and said, 'It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.' 7 So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners. 8 That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day. 9 Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: 'They took the thirty silver coins, the price set on him by the people of Israel, 10 and they used them to buy the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.' (Matthew 27:6-10, NIV)

c) In 30 A.D., on the day of Passover, Jesus Christ shed His blood and died on the cross - the blood of the Lamb of God given from the sins of the world.
