HEALING A LEPER

1. Why did Jesus perform miracles?

a) If Jesus really were divine, he should have been able to perform miracles. Jesus did just that. He healed the sick, walked on water and even raised the dead. These miracles helped to support his claim that he was the true God come to earth to save mankind.

b) The miracles of Jesus are described in the New Testament and are listed more or less below.

2. Miracles of Jesus: Healing a leper (Matthew 8:1-4; Mark 1:40-45; Luke 5:12-15)

a) After preaching the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7), Jesus came down the hillside followed by a large crowd. A leper approached Jesus and was miraculously healed of his skin disease.

b) As described in the book of Luke, which is in the New Testament of the Bible:

Luke 5:12-15 New International Version (NIV)

12 While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”

13 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.

14 Then Jesus ordered him, “Don’t tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”

15 Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses.
