BIBLE RECORDS | 124 MIRACLES (35)

1. What are "Miracles"?

a) Miracles are those acts that only God can perform; usually superseding natural laws. Baker’s Dictionary of the Bible defines a miracle as “an event in the external world brought about by the immediate agency or the simple volition of God.” It goes on to add that a miracle occurs to show that the power behind it is not limited to the laws of matter or mind as it interrupts fixed natural laws. So the term supernatural applies quite accurately.

b) Miracles are also known as Signs and Wonders.

c) Here we have one of the 124 miracles recorded in the Bible.

2. Miracle 35: MEGA HAILSTORM destroys the Amorite army in a battle with Joshua (Joshua 10:10-11).

a) Mega Hailstorm destroys the Amorite army.

Joshua 10:10-11 New King James Version (NKJV)
10 So the Lord routed them before Israel, killed them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, chased them along the road that goes to Beth Horon, and struck them down as far as Azekah and Makkedah.

11 And it happened, as they fled before Israel and were on the descent of Beth Horon, that the Lord cast down large hailstones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than the children of Israel killed with the sword.

b) Hail - balls of ice / frozen, multi-layered rain-drops (sometimes aggregated).

i) One of the plagues of Egypt (Exodus 9:23)

ii) It is mentioned by Haggai as a divine judgment (Haggai 2:17).

iii) A miraculous hail-storm destroyed the army of the Amorites when they fought against Joshua (Joshua 10:11).

iv) Ezekiel represents a wall daubed with untempered mortar as destroyed by great hail-stones (Ezekiel 13:11).
