REPENTANCE: 180 DEGREES TURN (3)

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. What Is Repentance?

a) The Greek word translated “repentance” in the New Testament means “to change one’s way of life as the result of a complete change of thought and attitude with regard to sin and righteousness.”

b) True repentance leads to regret, godly sorrow, and turning from sin. Counterfeit leads to self-pity and worldly sorrow.

c) For better understanding, it is about making 180 degrees turn from your old sinful ways.

2. What does the Bible say?

Luke 15:4-7
“If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep. In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!

Luke 5:32
I have not come to call righteous people, but sinners, to repentance.”

3. Repentance In The Bible

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Proverbs 28:13
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh [them] shall have mercy.

James 4:8-10
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse [your] hands, [ye] sinners; and purify [your] hearts, [ye] double minded.

The End ...
