BIBLE PROPHECIES | MESSIANIC (16)

1. Messianic - Old Testament prophecies fulfilled by Jesus Christ

a) The Bible has many prophecies that ancient rabbis identified as being "Messianic," meaning that they speak about an "anointed one" - a special person anointed by God - to carry out work ordained by God. Christians, including us at this web site, believe that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Bible's Messianic promises. Perhaps the Bible's most famous Messianic passages are found in Isaiah, chapter 53.

b) Bible prophecies are listed below.

2. Bible Prophecies

a) The Messiah would be a descendant of King David.

Jeremiah 23:5 New International Version (NIV)

“The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch,
a King who will reign wisely
and do what is just and right in the land.

3. Written: Sometime between 626-586 BC

a) There are many Bible prophecies involving the lineage of the Messiah, that he would be a descendant of Abraham, and that he would come from the Tribe of Judah, etc. In Jeremiah 23:5, as well as in other Biblical passages, we are told that the Messiah would be a descendant of King David, who was from the Tribe of Judah and was a descendant of Abraham.

b) The New Testament books of Matthew and Luke trace back Jesus' genealogy to King David. (Some scholars believe that the genealogy in Matthew is Jesus' legal line, through his adoptive father, Joseph, and that the genealogy in Luke is Jesus' bloodline through Mary).

c) King David reigned over the land of Israel from about 1050 BC to about 1010 BC, about 3000 years ago.
