1. Arrival At Sinai
a) We look at the the Israelites' arrival at Mount Sinai, and some of the events there —including God's appearance on the mountain while the people watched below (Exodus 19:1-25; 20:18-22).
2. God’s Plan
a) Behind this story is God's grace, and how God made his will known to the Israelites by signs. God did not force his will upon them. Instead, he made it a condition that they choose to obey, in order that his kind intentions for them might be realized.
b) If they disobeyed, God warned, he would "break out against them."
c) Three things to notice in Exodus 19:
i) God's intention: Exodus 19:5-6 (Revelation 1:5-6, 1 Peter 2:9) "You shall be a special treasure to me - a kingdom of priests."
ii) The condition: Exodus 19:5 (Colossians 1:21-23) "If you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant."
iii) The sign: Exodus 19:11, 16 (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) "It came to pass on the third day in the morning."
