SEVEN TRUTHS: THE ATONEMENT OF JESUS

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. Seven Truths

a) When we read between the lines of Paul's letter to the Colossians, we see that a heresy was developing in Colosse.

b) The heresy evidently denied or undermined certain truths concerning Jesus Christ. Paul strongly counters the heresy by teaching at least seven truths about Jesus Christ.

c) Here is one of the truths.

2. The Atonement Of Jesus

a) Paul shows that redemption and reconciliation were accomplished by Jesus in his fleshly body and by the blood he shed on the cross. It may be that a doctrine was creeping in that flesh and blood are evil, hence Paul's emphasis on the flesh and blood of Christ as the means of atonement (Colossians 1:14,20-22).

Colossians 1:14
14 in whom we have redemption through his blood even the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:20-22
20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.

21 And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, 22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach.
