WISDOM OF GOD: IMPORTANT SCRIPTURES (1)

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. Wisdom of God

a) The topic of wisdom comes up over and over again throughout the pages of the Bible.  One whole book (Proverbs) seems devoted to the topic and many verses in Proverbs have the topic of wisdom (often contrasted with foolishness).

b) Wisdom seems hard to obtain.  Wisdom in general seems to bring our minds to someone with much experience or expertise in an area or someone who makes good judgments.  Wisdom is different than having knowledge.

c) Knowledge is defined as having information through experience, reasoning or acquaintance.  Whereas wisdom is the ability to discern or judge what is true.

Psalms 111:10
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding.  His praise endures forever!”

2. Important Scriptures

Psalms 107:43
Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the LORD.

Ecclesiastes 2:26
For to the one who pleases him God has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the sinner he has given the business of gathering and collecting,  only to give to one who pleases God.  This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

Ecclesiastes 7:12
For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money,  and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.

1 Corinthians 1:19-21
For it is written,  “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” 20   Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age?  Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.
